Two months ago, we launched Mono to enable users to share their financial data with digital businesses in Africa in a secure and easy way.

As more users come online and internet-based businesses (e.g., fintechs) expand across Nigeria and Africa, the demand for innovative solutions that leverage customer data has surged. To meet this demand, we rebuilt and redesigned the widget from the ground up.

That's why we're excited to release the all-new Mono Connect Widget to make user enrolment experience smoother and faster while helping to ensure stable access to user-authorised financial and identity data.

What is the Mono Connect Widget?

For those wondering why this is important, Mono Connect is the entry point for businesses to get access to their customers’ financial and identity data.

With Mono Connect, users can give businesses the permission to access their financial data, directly from their bank.

This authorization happens through the Mono Connect widget where users securely logs into their account to share access to their financial data.

Now that you understand why this is important, let's get down to what we've changed and made better on the new Mono Connect widget.

A faster overall experience

Speed is critical to offering the best user experience. We’ve done several things to make the widget even faster than before.

First, we’ve reduced the time it takes for each pane to load, ensuring a quicker and smoother account connection process for users.

We have also improved the experience of selecting an institution by displaying the most relevant banks first based on the user’s location. For example, users in Lagos are more likely to use Gtbank compared to users from Ijebu, so they would see Gtbank as the first institution from the list.

Mobile banking connection

At its core, Mono is a data company and we make use of data analytics tools like Amplitude to understand users behaviour.

When we launched, we noticed that most users don't have internet banking but they have mobile banking.

With this data point, we started working on integrating banks' mobile APIs to ensure the enrolment process is accessible to all users, regardless of their institution login type, enabling Mono to authenticate them seamlessly.

The new Mono widget comes with Mobile banking login type and we've designed the process such that it's cleaner and clearer for users.

A cleaner, more accessible design

Compared to the previous Mono Connect widget, the design is now cleaner and more visually appealing.

We’ve optimized the layout to make the enrollment process smoother and faster, and as a result, many users now complete enrollment in just a few minutes.

Overall, we believe these changes will increase the success rate for your customers when linking their financial accounts through Mono.

How to get started

We've done the heavy lifting of making sure this new update doesn't disrupt your current setup. If you're currently using any of our SDKs in your apps, you only need to update the version of the SDK, that's all. For more details, check our GitHub.

That's all from us and if you have any feedback or suggestions regarding this new update, kindly reach out to us on slack (if you're a current customer) and if you're not, say hello via our website or email us.
