Last month, we announced our weekly blog series called ‘meet mono’ that introduces our team members.
Here at Mono, we’re on a mission to provide internet businesses in Africa access to their customers financial and identity data.
It’s impossible to do this without having a driven team who have a heart for democratising customer data access in Africa. So it's extremely important for us to put a spotlight on the amazing talents building Mono.
Next up in this series, we’ll be having a chat with our Product Engineer — Umar.
Umar: Product Engineer @ Mono
What are your responsibilities as a Product Engineer?
My responsibility is all about bringing our products to life, turning product ideas into business logic or product designs into user interfaces. I also have to ensure our users and developers have the best experience when using and integrating our products.
Which of the Mono values resonates with you most?
The Mono value that resonates with me most is "Thinking Big". I approach anything I'm doing with a mindset of delivering at the highest standard. A good example is when I'm trying to solve a programming problem, I iterate over different solutions till I get the Dan Abramov way 😂. PS. I write a lot of React code so I jokingly call my best solutions "The Dan Abramov way"
How has your role evolved since you started at Mono?
Not sure. I've been a full stack guy for most part of my career. Although I've been learning a lot from our CTO Prakhar, I call him Sensei.
What's the most challenging part of your job?
The speed at which we ship! It's like changing tyres of a formula 1 racing car during a race. It's challenging and fun at the same time, especially when you see the customer impact you're creating.
What’s the best part of the job?
The best part is looking at our logs and seeing the way users interact with our products, it's fulfilling the way everything comes together.
How’s your work-from-home setup these days?
To be honest I have a very minimal set-up, just a personal desk and chair. I work from literally anywhere, I find myself working anywhere in my room from the bed, couch, dining table etc. I plan to set up something soon though.
Most proud moment?
Most proud moment was the first time I built a product, solo, and shipped to production, it was a food delivery app that operates in Abuja.
Favourite song at the moment?
None. Of recent I have found myself replaying Olamide ft Omah Lay - Infinity.
And there you have it, hopefully you got to know him a bit better. Umar's working along with others to ensure Mono is the easiest, fastest and best way to get access to your customers financial accounts for account statements, real time transactions, income & much more! 💫
